Seismic Velocities and Depth Conversion
Seismic is recorded in time while wells are drilled in depth, and velocity variations can distort the apparent size and shape of a prospect. This course teaches how to combine velocity data with structural inputs to build or calibrate a consistent velocity model and convert interpretations to depth.

Who should attend
Early-career geoscientists and engineers, especially seismic interpreters, who need the basics of velocity modelling and time-to-depth conversion.
What participants will be able to do
- Distinguish the main velocity types and their reliability
- Combine and quality check velocities in an integrated model
- Validate a velocity model against well ties
- Convert horizons, faults and seismic data from time to depth
Topics covered
- Seismic velocity types
- Velocity model building
- Time-to-depth conversion
- Well tie calibration
- Depth uncertainty
